Star Date – 1035.7.24

 Location – B3,R8 – Progress

The crew and I met with a potential crew member that said they could teach and fight.  The new person looked like a short human woman with wings that couldn’t possibly lift them into the air.  They were wearing an extremely pink jumpsuit.  They talked and gushed and walked through a chair, which is how we learned that they are immaterial.  It seems they do need to eat and they can eat the same bamboo as Bo.  They did explain that they will need to leave by the end of Month 3 next year. And that deadline is quite strict, so if we’re about to start a journey that definitely won’t end before the end of Month 3 they would be obliged to leave early.

We welcomed them to the crew and they were very pleased to see they were sharing a bunk with Bo, Slash, and Onyx.  Apparently the Yahwho that gave their people reason made them to live in creches.

Bo and I went to the job board and then the Installation checking for work.  The mission board showed that the Terraformers has a request for a research ship to do some work on the physics of navigation.  It looks like a bit of work that is right down our alley.  There was also a product test for Starlight Express out of Shadow (Night), but the pay isn’t great and we would have to head to Shadow to do the work.  The crew voted not to take the product testing work.

The Installation offered a bit of weapons testing.  They’ll provide the targets and the ion blasters.  If we want we can test it on our trip.  If we don’t want to keep them we can have them shipped back to Progress later.  In order to do this, we’ll need to unmount a system.

The crew debated it for quite a while.  Eventually, we agreed that we’d pull the Garden and mount the ion blaster there.  We’ll see how Unity reacts when we get there.  It will take 4 cycles to have the Garden pulled and the Ion Blasters put in.

Yeratel agreed to start teaching Onyx combat starting right away.

I’ll spend the next 4 cycles taking chemistry work since Terranova can monitor the workers.
